Dec 16th-Que oso!

What up people? This past week has been interesting. It started where on Tuesday all of the leaders had a meeting in Chiclayo. My companion is a leader so I was paired up with 2 other elders who also was changing there comps. Needless to say, for 1 day us three (all of us are from the USA, having 5 months in the mission, me with 3 months, and the other had a week in the field.) were companions of awesome that didnt understand everything. it was Great! After that this week wasnt that good partly because I have been sick the past couple days. Today we are going to have a small party for an elder whose birthday is tomorrow, he is in a different part of Ferreñafe, and then tomorrow our zone is going to a museom, my companion said it is one of the best in the world, but I dont think so. Right now we are just preparing for activities for christmas. Partly because the people are just partying and also because we have a lot of activities going on. Sorry I dont remember who asked me a couple weeks ago, but no they dont celebrate thanksgiving here.

I dont really have stuff to say other than get ready for christmas. I can skype, but I wont know what time until Christmas eve. Hopefully I can remember my username and password. If not I will just talk through the phone. HAHAHA.

I dont think I will write next monday, but I will see some of you next week. If I dont see you...Merry cold and snowy Christmas. And remember everyone loves the younger brother. :)

Thought for the week: Are the Utah Jazz going to go to the playoffs this year?

Imaynaya Qashquanqui-Dec 9th

What up dudes? So I have been guiding my new companion around for the past week. His name is Elder Silva and he is from a city about 3 hours away called Trujillo. He is actually some what tall and he has about 6 months left in the mission and so far he has been a good companion. After tuesdays changes, I now have a lot of people from North America in my Zone. of the 24ish people in my zone 9 of them are fluent in english and from North America, and all but 1 of them have less than 7 months in the mission. So there is a lot of english speaking. It was kind of fun the last week when I was killing elder Fernandez because the members took us out to eat a couple of times, and we got some ice cream 1 day, oh it was great!

Also in the past week, 1 of the girls that I live with was having a baby. It really sucked because she woke up at about 3:30 in the morning screaming. Then like every 20 minutes she would have a contraction or what ever is going on that makes the girls scream. It wasnt until 8:00 when they actually went to the Hospital. it was terrible because I didnt get any sleep, also because I was thinking that I was going to be checking "deliver a baby" off the mission checklist...ok lezbihonest I was more worried about not having breakfast.

Yesterday I was able to watch the christmas devotional. I didnt really understand much of it but the music was amazing. Seeing elder nelson yesterday reminded me. Did you guys know that he has some funky eyes? I noticed that when I shoke his hand a couple weeks ago. Also yesterday we had a big meeting with a lot of missionary and ward counsels in the area, where Elder Calderon of the 70 talked and told us how to make this work of salvation better. It was the 2 time we heard from Elder Calderon so we must not be doing a good enough job.

As far as the work here, me and my companion are starting a new little branch group in the little town of Mesones muro, which is in our area. But other than that, it is pretty much the same, teach a lesson, knock on doors and eat rice, and sweating the whole time. Hope you all had a good week, and Happy Birthday to my favorite nephew Jaxon today.

Is me on the roof of our house. I like this picture because it makes me look fat.

One of the first p-days we hiked a mountain in a town that is also in my area. This was taken not very far from the bottom.

December 2nd-Put Me In Coach!

Well I have oficially killed my first companion, Elder Fernandez, also known as father. So tomorrow I will recieve a different companion. Right now I am a zone leader, so I am the boss...until tomorrow morning. So I have to go back two weeks ago to talk about some more stuff. First we got to hear from Elder Nelson of the Qourem of the twelve. He must be use to the peruvian time because he showed up 45 minutes after he was suppose to talk. However his talk was amazing. Not only was it only the missionary in Chiclayo but also in the Piura mission, so there was about 430 missionarys there. But he shock everyones hand. When he shock my hand he said nice to meet you elder Olsen, I didnt know what to do so I just turned around and walked away. Last week, we also got to hear from Elder Calderon from the 70. He talked for 3 hours, which was a lot of spanish that I didnt understand much. But I am sure that is was good also.

My Thanksgiving was alright. I grew up the strength to ask my pensionista for mashed potatoes. She didnt understand me, so my companion asked again for me. But my lunch was normal only she took a little bit of rice off and added on some mashed potatoes.

Right now I am in Chiclayo until tomorrow morning, so my camera and list of things I was going to share with you are in my room. So I will have to talk more next time when I remember what to say. Until then Happy Birthday Taylor.

Though for the week. If I eat 2.5 cups of rice a day, how much grams would I have eaten when I finish the mission?

Ummmm.....November 25th

Well this is awkward. So I dont know why, but I guess we have permission or something, as to why I am writing for an hour now at 8 at night. I dont know, but oh well I have some explaining. So today I spent all day in Chiclayo because my companion was giving permersion by the president to visit some of his converts. It was good though, because I got to have PIZZA!! I had to pay for it, and it was expensive but it was worth it. They had Mcdonalds and KFC also. Until about an hour ago when I had rice again in Ferreñafe.

Last week, we did go to a party for a recent convert, for her birthday. I was so excited for some cake and ice cream, but instead they had chicken and rice...shocker. They had cake but they brought that out after we left. However the chicken was probably the best chicken I have had here.

Now I really dont have anymore time, so I will talk about Elder Nelson next time.
Happy Thanksgiving

Nov 25th---Sorry

I am in chiclayo right now using some members crappy internet. I will explain more when I have time. maybe in 2 weeks, because next week I kill my companion so I might not have time again. So for this week all I can say is happy thanksgiving hopefully you have fun and eat a lot. I might ask for something to eat other than rice but have fun and love you all.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!-November 18th

Happy Birthday to my favorite mother tomorrow! Hope you can have a little fun without me there. We have a member whose birthday is tomorrow, so we might stop by if we dont have anything. Also I will be celebrating by listening to the words of our apostle Russell Nelson, who is visiting our mission on Wednesday. I have known for almost a month but we are a little excited for that. Hopefully he will be speaking in English, or else I wont really be celebrating. He is going to be speaking to every missionary in the mission. All 250 of us.

Things here are good. The kids really love me even though I dont talk to them. I wish you could see the 3 sitting behind me in this cafe trying to read and understand what I am saying. Everyone down here wants to learn english, so my companion makes me teach every Friday at 7:30. I have done it 2 times now and it is not very good. Last friday we had a meeting with just all the white boys with in an hour way of chiclayo, and we talked about stress. It was good, because I go to see all of my peeps from the CCM and share experiences, and in the night the stake had a fiesta (party which down here means dancing) and for the first time in the life I was not told to GO and dance, but yet I was told NOT to go and dance! I almost cried!

That has been one of the hardest things so far, is to adapt of how to deal with stress. Because in the US, when I was stress or mad I would play some music, go on a drive, watch a movie, go dancing, or beat on my pillow. But here I have no car, cant watch movies, no music (except for what I hear in the street) I cant dance, and I dont always have my pillow. But it is all a part of this process of learning.

We are starting a little branch in my area in a small town called Mesones Muro, mainly because we dont have any more space for people in our chapil so that is more work to be done. Other than that I dont really have anything else to say. Just more knocking on doors, walking, teaching, and eating rice everyday! I am on companion exchange right now so I dont have my camera so next week I plan to send pictures. Hopefully you all have a good week!

Though for the week: Why dont pen marks come out of white shirts?

Nov 11th-2 Months Down, 2 More 2's To Go

What up Gringos? I am writing you all, on this happy veterans day which we obviously do not celebrate down here in peru. but Happy Veterans day. My companion needs to go to chiclayo so we are going in the afternoon, hence why I am writing earlier.

So I guess that my explaination last week, was not good enough and people want a little more. I am living a room of a house of a family that has 3 girls and only one of the girls is a member, and that is because my companion baptised and converted her. The food down here is super risky as far as what we can and cannot eat, because of that I do not cook a single meal. We pay someone (the mom that we live with) to make us food everymeal. She is called our pensionista. Also with the food, I am certain that I will gain weight here because I cant eat the healthy stuff. I cant have cervesa, lettuce, pig or strawberries and some weird stuff I dont know. So I eat rice every meal exept for breakfest. and we eat a TON of meat. mostly chicken. Which is why I think a lot of us get sick is from the meat. To be honest I am terrified of my pensionista, she is a big (I mean big) lady that never smiles, even though she only come up to my armpit.

The baptism last week was good, Elder Fernandez and I cleaned the whole church before, luckily it is small. Then we had the baptism, I didnt do anything for it but it is was fun. Then after she tooks out to eat. It might suprise you, but we had chicken! Surprise!

So far in this experience my nerves has been getting pushed to the limit. Because of a couple of things. 1. I hate starting things late or being late to things. and the latino culture does both of those. Por exemple the baptism was suppose to start at 4. we took pictures at 5:30 and the service started at 5:45. 2. I hate being touch unless it is by girls, even then I dont like it sometimes. but they touch so much here. Especially since I am white and they think I am the shiz, even though I dont understand what they are saying. 3. I am not patient, but this work requires a lot! So  needless so say, this experience is a hard working, fun, frustrating, emotional experience. until next week peace out.

Thought for the week: Would Nephi had been faithful and good if Laman and Lemuel were not so "wicked"?

Nov 4th

Well another week down. Things here are getting a lot better, 1. received my church credit card, so I now have money. 2. I understand a lot more spanish which is perfect. It has been pretty much the same as all other missionary weeks, You knock on doors, teach some lessions, get some doors slammed in your face. one thing that was different is that last week we had a mini ccm. Where everyone that was preparing to serve a mission in the stake joined a missionary for a day. I was so excited until I was told that they were splitting up my companionship for it. So I had 2 latinos with me and my comp had 2 different ones. And I was suppose to show them how to teach and such. Yeah that didn`t happen since I don`t know spanish. I just told them they it was there day to learn, and that I don`t want to talk at all. So they taught everything. It was great!! Yesterday we taught all day with miembers too. Today we went to a different town that is in my area like 30 minutes away. and hiked a mountain, with a couple of miembers (this hiking experience was better since I didn`t have my broken foot this time). Then played soccer for like another hour, overall it was a good day and week.

Some people have been wondering what it is like here so. It is really hot! which scares me a little because the hottest months here is december and january. I am living in a very very dry desert, so there is a lot of dust and wind too. It was pretty funny, a familia was trying to explain to me lightning and thunder. because it never happens out here. they were so scared of it. I don`t know how they really get water for their crops.

As for some good news, I will be having my first baptism this saturday. So that is cool. Some more things I have learned. 1. Latinos are very loving, so loving that it freaks and bugs me some time. 2. Dad`s grasshopper would be in heaven here. Because that is like the biggest car here. 3. Wear sunscreen.

pictures
1. Everyone that came to the mission chiclayo from the ccm on the same day with the president.
2. My children that I took care of in the ccm the night before we left.

Though for the week, read DyC 84 and think of how it can help you, especially vs. 77-89 they helped me in the past week.

Until next week With love Elder Tyrone Mufasa Chanchino Olsen.

Oct 28th-Viva Peru

First thing first happy birthday Chantel, and happy halloween soon. Well have no fear (mom) I am alive for now! I don´t have much time but I will try to write as much as possible. Well we went prostylising again the saturday before we left the CCm and that sucked because I didnpt get a latino companion that time. It was me and elder henry taking on the world. But we actually did really good, and got a lot said and done. I flew out to Chiclayo on Tuesday morning, I only had 2 hours of sleep, but we got there intruduced ourselfs meet our new companion then left to our areas. Down here they only allow 50 pounds per person. So I between my 2 bags I had to have 23 kilos. So I left some stuff in the airport and CCM, and the church paid some more extra.1 reason I was excited to leave the CCM because there was some purple drink that I hated and we had maybe once week, but I have had it about 5 times since I have gotten here in my area.My area is a town called ferreñafe with my new companion who is elder fernandez, from Chile. I am his last companion so he will be going home in 5 weeks. He is teaching me a lot of stuff, but is also making this very hard for me in multiple ways. There has been a carnival outside of my house for the past week and will go until thursday, but it is for a catholic saint of milagros, so I have not gotten much sleep becaus they have also had some late concerts.

Some more things I have learn, 1. Catholics know how to party 2. it is a lot easier to teach the gospel when you actually know it. 3. same as number 2 only spanish. 4. Latinos love to hug 5. I will know that when I am done eating rice for lunch and dinner I will be done with my mission.
I dont have much time but have fun, now that I am alive for now and that you guys should have some fun.

This Is It Yo---Oct 17th

So I didn´t have time last week to say very much, so first off, how about conference!?! 30,000 more missionarys in only 1 year. Strange to think that I have joined in that movement of this work. My favorite talk was definity the black guy elder Dube, and then Uchtdorf from the same session. Um, another thing of sadness was when an elder from Price Utah went home, we got along pretty good and he knew a whole bunch of my friends from Helper.

So they have decided that they are going to start teaching portuguese here in 3 months. So they have started to build another building for all of that, which sucks because they ruined the volleyball court enable for them to build. So after I got my haircut last time, the elder said that it still looked cute, so that creeped me out even more so I got my haircut even shorter. Now everyone thinks I am 24 and bald, so I don´t think that is a good thing.

Since so many people here still speak the native incan language, we have been learning a little bit of it also, not a whole ton but enough for us to laugh about it. Today I had to show a whole bunch of the newbies around town since I am considered pro and know everything (false). But I went through the whole session in spanish for the first time, and I actually understood a lot of it. Since this is the last time I will be writing, I will say some things that I haved learned while I have been here these are no order of importance. On monday I made a deal with a Latino (since we can´t have bets) that my district of gringos would beat his district of latinos in soccer (I figured why not since we haven´t lost yet) the deal was that whoever lost would give the other person a 5 minute message. You could probably tell by the picture who won.

1. Learning a whole language in 6 weeks is really hard, 2. The church needs to buy better toilet paper. 3. Being district leader sucks a little bit, but is also very fun. 4. Even though your name is Elder Ruiz and latino, doesn´t mean you now spanish. 5. The people of Perú is very short.  6. You can never get sick of rice, chicken, over crowded buses, hugs.

4 Weeks Down.....100 To Go

Well it has been 1 month tomorrow that I have been out on a mission. It has been great made a lot of new friends, tried a lot of new food, and learned a lot of stuff. This past week, was conference which was really good, but I had to watch in a suit and tie, in a hard chair, with no food, which sucked badly. Sad to not hear of the Chiclayo temple being built yet, but it will happen soon. I don´t know if you guys remember hearing about the member of the seventy getting released, Caesar Hooker, but he came and talked to us about 2 weeks ago, with his wife, we kinda laugh about his name a lot. Also it was the first time I got a little home sick seeing them show the temple and that, made me miss Salt Lake a little, but it is all good that feeling left me quickly. However for lunch on Saturday I got to watch a kid choke!! He was sitting right in front of me, and he choked on 3 pieces of meat that he didn´t chew completely through. It was actually super freaky to watch him be no being able to do anything with a super white face, but we got them out and he is still alive. Check that off the bucket list!!

Once again I went to the temple today, to come back to a whole bunce of newbies here at the CCM. There are 49 new latinos 35 new americans, with a total of 143 people here now. I have met the Latinos just barely who are going to Chiclayo with us so it will be good, so far I count about 15 of us going to Chiclayo. Next week will be my last time writing from here at the CCM, so it is exciting to think that I will be out speaking spanish in the field in 12 days.

Yesterday I tripped an Hermana when we were doing a relay race, she jammed like 3 fingers ripped her dress and scratched her knee kind of bad. So check that off the bucket list!! It was an accident, but really funny. I don´t really have time, because all 143 people have to right today, and we are getting new computers that are kicking me out a lot, so I will try to talk more next time, if the pictures don´t show up I am sorry,
1 is of my first roomies the latinos that we crazy and fun.

Oct 3rd-Halfway Done With CCM

Well it has officially been a full three weeks here at the CCM, and everything it good. I am now considered a senior citizen here, and I kinda feel that way. The days feel like weeks here and the weeks feel like days here. The new group of newbies are pretty fun, but some are having problems here, so I am trying to help them out. We have 130 missionarys here and 50 of them are latino, and 38 of the nortamericans just got here last week. Other than that everything here is pretty much the same, We spend all day learning spanish, speaking spanglish to an "investigator" while teaching them a lession. Sometimes we teach 4 lessions a day. One cool thing that happened is that we had 30 people come all the way down from Chiclayo, on a temple trip, and when they were done they came up to the CCM to be investigators. It was really cool to talk to them and talk about the fish and the heat. The lessions were not fun because they spent the whole time correcting my spanish, but still they were good. P-day again, we went to the temple, again, so I have been to the Lima Peru temple 3 times now, and I will go 2 more times before I leave. The food is still amazing, I eat about a cookie sheet worth of food every meal except for breakfast. Half of it is rice, but it still very good. I might actually gain some weight while I am down here. The teachers are amazing and fun. I will send picture once I know how to send them, but I don´t really have a bunch of time.

Week Of Emotions-Sept 26th

Hello again ya´ll,

Happyness: As I said last week, Thursday was my companions birthday, so we (our latino roomies and I) got a cake when we went downtown. We sang happy birthday to him in the cafeteria, but we had to stop halfway through because supposively we can´t sing there. SO later at like 9:30 we had a little party in our room, and yes I did shove his face in his cake. Twice. We found out that we are going to the temple every p-day until we leave the CCM, so I did go the temple again this morning. We saw some americans in the grocery store today speaking english, and we were so excited to hear english that we went and talked to them...it was really awkward.

Sadness: Also last week, we had an elder in our district go home which made all of us really sad. But after words we talked as a district together, and we all realized that it is really sad being this far away from our families, women, raspberries, and cars. However we are a new family that love and care for each and everyone of us, even after 2 weeks, and leaving them and here right now, would be just as hard as leaving the life that i had in Utah. Also on tuesday morning about 80-90 missionarys left here to go into the field, which included my awesomely funny latino roomates (elders Pacheco, Pequeno, Vargas, and Aguilar), which me and elder henry already miss. So the CCM was really empty and boring until this morning when a whole bunch of newbies showed up, 50 of them are north americans. I haven´t even met my roomies yet, but I know they are from America.

Awesomeness: As for some awesome news. I havent lost in a single sport game yet, in which includes, Futbol, americano futbol, ping pong (theballs suck), and volleyball! um, some elder yesterday told me that he really like my hair, and that kinda freaked me out, so I got a haircut today.

Randomness: We had pizza here on wednesday when all the latinos were gone, so that was a little heavenly like. Also not to freak anyone out...mom... but I did experience a earthquake yesterday. Supposively there was a 7.0 one in a city far away from lima, but we still felt it, and it was freaken AWESOME!!! it lasted for like 30 seconds and was exciting so ....check that off the mission bucket list.

Lastly all I will say about your sinners of Provo town!! There is still time for all ya´ll to choose the right and make the right choice of being a Ute. I will forgive your prior comments of rudeness, and uncorrect statements, and will let you guys bangwagon and like the Utes.

Tupanchee Kama Wawa
Elder Tyrone Mufasa Olsen

p.s. I never did here a score of the byu utah game...will someone tell what it was? Also tell me more about the earthquake awesomeness. I pretty much live in a marriott prison. I don´t get to see of hear much of anything.

Sept 19th-Numbero Dos

  Hello!!
As you can assume, I now know that my p-day is on thursday, and It has been officially a full week since I have gotten here at the CCM, and I am already sick of it!! We are behind 2 locked fences that we can´t see over until we are on a third floor of a building. So we didn´t even know if we were in Peru. As far as we knew we could have just flew in circles over Georgia for 7 hours and then just stuck us in a prison! However we were able to leave today, and we went down to the Lima temple. It was a really fun spiritual experience for us all. Until the time came when we were going through the vail, and we realized that we have to do all of it in spanish, which we don´t know!! This Saturday everyone in the CCM is going to be going out and prostelyting! Which is going to be horribly awesome, because we don´t know spanish, but yet we will be able to leave these walls again.

As far as Peru, it is a wonderful place. Every night and morning there is something called the Lima mist, where it just looks like fog, but yet it like rains...but it is really just a light mist. They people here are very very nice...until they are driving a car. I hear more people honking there horns here in one hour, then in my whole entire life in Utah!! They also don´t really stop for anything or anyone. Even if your in a crosswalk. It isn´t a law for them to stop for walkers, plus they just don´t care!

The CCM- I don´t really know how to explain it completely. It isn´t really in Lima, in is in a area called La Molina and it is considered one of the richest places in Lima. It isn´t the prettiest place in the world, but it is still nice area. 2 of my roomies moved out, so now there is just me and Elder Henry, and 4 other latinos. Every Latino here is so FUNNY!!! We all get a long and have a good time, until we get on the soccer field. It is going to suck when all of them leave next tuesday. Of the 120 of us misionarys here. There is about 60 latinos and 60 white peeps, and about 30-40 of them are hermanas. That will change next tuesday when pretty much all of them leave except the 20 of us white peeps that flew down last week. They are very strict on rules here. For example, we are only to take pictures on our p-day, with that we can´t take any inside any building here, only outside. The food her is much different (this might be a little gross fyi), I have had rice for every lunch and dinner since we got here, the grossest thing I have had so far has been octopuss and its tenicules thingys. Turns out that they really do have there cereal with yogurt instead of milk, which is good but very weird indeed!! And if you feel like you have to fart... make sure that you are over the toilet because you never know if it really is a fart, or if something else is goin to be flying out!! There has been a lot of sicknessess here. The only time that I have shaken someones hand since I got off the plane in Peru, has been at the Temple this morning. I gave my first blessing also, one elder was feeling really sick, and asked for a blessing so...check that off the bucket list! I am pretty sure that by the time I leave the CCM I am going to need a double knee replacement because of how many prayers we have been saying on our knees.

It might sound like it is terrible here but I actually isn´t as bad as it sounds, and the people here and in my district just make this place fell awesome!!

I am a little short on time because I have to go and meet with interpool for something, plus it is my companions birthday today so we are going to have a party. Feel free to ask more questions for next week though!

Elder Tyrone Mufasa Chanchino Olsen!!

Viva Peru-September 12th

Have no fear I have made it.

It was a long and terrible flight all the way to Peru, but during it I made some new friends, but they all have the same name of Elder! Weird! During the flight was the worst thing ever because they had millions of movies and I couldn´t watch any of them. Plus I sat in the middle seat with my legs hitting the back of the seat in front of me. There was 11 of us that flew together out of Salt Lake to Atlanta, then there were about 20 of us total flying to Peru. We arrived at the airport at 10 last night, so 9 your time, but we didn't get back to the CCM until about 12:30, and didn't get to bed until about 2. So I am extremely tired! cause I didnt sleep on the plane either.

My companion is Elder Henry. He is the Elder from Richfield that I meet at the Manti temple when I went through. I also sat by him for all 11 hours of flying we did, he is a really good guy. There are 8 of us elders to a room that is about as big as taylors room. Me and elder henry are the only ones in our room that speaks english. Also there is not a lot of people that work here at the CCM that know english either. It is definitely different here. I would sent pictures but I havent taken any! because it has been dark, and security wouldnt let us take pictures in the Airport. well we could take them, but they would just make us delete them.

Dont worry they do have yogurt! only they use it as milk for there cereal. They probably dont actually do, but we dont know spanish so when they were telling us what to do, that is what it sounded like to us nonspeakers. I dont know when my p-day is yet. but the president said either thursday or tuesday. Love you guys.
